Here come necklaces again. Yes, winter 2015 will focus on necklaces with a sundry of different, eclectic and fierce styles, making them the recognizable leaders in the accessory world.
During Fashion Week in Milan, I found pieces I think give us the best taste of what we’ll see in the shops in the coming months. What is most extraordinary is the use of a wealth of innovative materials, accompanied by a strong tribute to shape, volume and design. And everything is done in maxi sizes.
Just look at Caterina Rosati’s flowery raffia world, Ellen Conde’s metallic chokers, 70Settanta Bijoux’s sparkling pendants, Thai Ek Thongprasert’s foamy silicon necklaces or Giulia Boccafogli’s leather collars. And the apex of amazing creativity is reached with Filipino Ken Samudo; his assembly of elements in recycled plastic water bottles is a ready-to-wear masterpiece.
Other designs of interest include Sharon Smith’s very Italian offerings, Uli Rapp’s shimmery lasered multi-strands, eccentric Ilenia Corti’s signature necklaces and Vernissage’s creative soul that carries on its fantastic and interminable ode to the insect world. And then there are the more reassuring offerings made of crystals, shiny metals or elegant floral decorations that also take part in the “Fab Necks” group. It’s an invitation to wear top one-of-a-kind pieces.
