The Paola Grande Gioielli atelier is a little chest of treasures waiting to be discovered as you walk down Via Fiori Chiari, 16 in Milan. Strongly desired by designer Paola Grande and Giulia di Pace – mother and daughter – it reflects the bright vision of their creative soul.
What stands out in the window? Personality, a design identity, innovation and artigianality, a formula that makes Paola Grande Gioielli creations a sophisticated balance between Neapolitan tradition and modern creative intuition. They make cosmopolitan collections that combine a passion for contemporary art with a refined and ultra-current flare resulting in a conceptual yet easy-to-wear style. The design is sculptural and high impact, with an ethereal soul, almost crystalline, given the use of crystals, diamonds, gold, silver, bronze and mineral stones. The jewels stem from chaos, with a very individual concept of disorder and distortion, arriving at aesthetic perfection, made of purity, linearity and overlays. They arise from a single thought, from an innermost world in which there is neither a beginning nor an end, but everything develops through a common theme. The metals, the central and absolute hero, unfold with soft plisset, which alternates with geometric multi-layers, in gold or silver, with diamonds, quartz and crystals.
In Spinae, the latest collection, three-dimensionality leads the way with an aesthetic expression that revolves around the inside of the body, its joints and junctions. Interchangeable transversal, and multi-faceted jewels rely on an overlapping notion, the concept of opposites attracting, black and white, and light and darkness. A structure, meant to look like a crest, thrives through almost architectural and sartorial details, and lateral zigzagged “stitching”, which give the idea of a bold tailor-made piece. Giulia tells me, “They are jewels that reflect my inner world and take shape through my imagination. An ethereal allure surround them, but the shapes define them. Some of the objects have a true personality and a story to tell. For example, there is a ring from the “Entropia” line that in addition to opening, has a rock crystal pyramid with a design behind it (each is unique) that reflects light through a stone, like a kaleidoscope. Each image represents a small world of meanings, dreams and reminiscences.”
