Nikos Koulis is one of the new voices in contemporary Fine Jewellery. He lives in Athens and is one of the most acclaimed players in the jewellery industry. He loves pearls and diamonds and surprises us with an air of modern elegance that defines an updated concept of beauty.
What inspires him? First and foremost, past experience. Nikos shapes his experience into jewels using a creative flair that arrives from one moment to the next. Through the quality of the design, material, concepts, shapes and volumes, he creates a jewel that is his expression of luxury.
Balance and proportions communicate through the choice of geometric, yet craftily feminine, concepts. Woman and jewel? Nikos thinks it is always a question of femininity or the lack thereof. And this is probably right where the “Koulis” formula lies. He pushes the limits of the rules and, for example, goes beyond the relationship between fashion and jewellery.
The long-lasting value of the jewel and its aesthetic power is something that moves past the mere concept of fashion. Nikos distances himself from this coupling looking for something to reinforce and preserve the prestige of a precious universe that is reasserting its role today. His “V” Collection is a tribute to triangles, a reoccurring element in pixelated earrings with diamonds, rubies, emeralds, blue sapphires and cuff bracelets or rings meant to solidify a feeling of continuous synergy among the various geometric shapes.
