Maiko Takeda from Japan, lives and works in London as milliner and jewelry designer. No doubt about her visionary talent in working with head and body ornaments. Here we want to introduce Maiko as one of the most compelling and promising face on jewelry design.
After an academic life at the Royal College of Art and at the Central Saint Martins in London at the BA Jewellery Design course, Maiko fell in love with an irresistible passion for body ornament.
The result? The Atmospheric Reentry (2013), undoubtedly the best work for Maiko to express her talent at the best. At first sight you may be a bit confused. Her creations are not so clear, it may be a bit hard to grasp their real identity. Are they hats or maybe jewels? Sculptures or dresses?
There’ s not an answer. There has not to be. Maiko Takedo doesn’t want it. Her force is in transmitting a magnetic message and to sign these pieces of art in an unmistakable way. She is an artist and her most deep desire is to capture what is impalpable, to enter other dimensions, where even eyes can’t arrive, so to explore other senses.
Gravity, lightness, the relationship between solids and voids, the need of armory and the sensation of the wind.
Materials help Maiko in this adventure. Acrylic discs, transparencies, hand-painted celluloid with a degrade effect and silver rings create independent structures that ‘live’ without any support, clasps or cages.
The result? An futuristic cloud, as colored as prickly.
Among Maiko’s partnerships let’s mention Bjork’s Biophila Tour 2013 where the singer chose Maiko’s headpieces for the Tour.
And this is just the beginning. We are pretty sure that her creations will soon land on the most demanding catwalks of the fashion system. Do not lose sight of her!
